Originaria dei Paesi Baschi, tra Francia e Spagna, la PoorMan Records è una piccola etichetta discografica che recentemente ha pubblicato l’ultimo disco di Trinity Ruff It Top. Li abbiamo intervistati parlando di come nasce la loro attività, le collaborazioni avute negli anni e il recente lavoro con il leggendario Junio Brammer.

Quando nasce l’etichetta?
La nostra Poorman Records nasce nel 2003 nei Paesi Baschi, con il desiderio di comunicare la nostra passione per la musica giamaicana. Da quel momento, siamo in tre a rappresentare la Poorman Records, Sista Sÿ, LMc, e io che sono Selekta Komagain.
Quale era il vostro obiettivo?
L’obiettivo della nostra label è quello di promuovere artisti reggae attraverso concerti e produzione di cd, e dare anche supporto alla scena dei giovani artisti, troppo spesso messi da parte.
Qual è stata la vostra prima produzione?
Il primo progetto dell’etichetta è stato realizzato nel 2006 il nostro primo riddim, con sedici artisti della scena internazionale: Rod Taylor, Tetrack, King Lorenzo, Ras Daniel e Brahim. Questo progetto è stato nominato Not A Joke Riddim, diretto dall’Artikal Band di Montpellier.. Uscito in cd, questo lavoro è stato anche pubblicato in vinile, con Rod Taylor e Brahim in 45..
È quale è stato l’ultimo?
Il disco Ruff It Top, assieme al talentuoso Trinity aka Jr Brammer. Un ottimo disco nella carriera di questo artista con Dubplate originali registrati apposta per questo progetto e diversi featuring: Keith&Tex / The Itals / Dennis Brown, Grégory Isaacs / Joseph Cotton / Horace Andy, Natty King / Chezidek / Ras Mac Bean..
Come siete entrati in contatto con Trinity?
Ho avuto il piacere di rappresentare per due anni la Label Irie Ites Intl dalla Francia con diversi artisti internazionali. Trinity fa parte dei miei dj preferiti, così ho avuto modo di conoscerlo, il selecta del sound mi ha dato la possibilità di creare questo incontro faccia a faccia.
Da dove nasce l’idea di questo progetto?
Abbiamo organizzato un concerto nei Paesi Baschi per lui, ma l’amministrazione non ha facilitato lo svolgimento di questo evento. Avevamo già pagato Trinity per questo show. Quindi in cambio Trinity ha registrato per noi dei dubplate, così non ci abbiamo perso niente ed è nato Ruff It Top.
La scena Reggae in Francia è una delle più sviluppate del continente. Qual è il motivo di questo successo secondo voi?
Molte piccole etichette fanno piccole cose in Francia, le radio alternative permettono una diffusione maggiore. E gli show reggae ci sono sempre. Alcune trasmissioni radiofoniche (come France Inter) hanno anche trasmesso musica reggae per anni, presentato da una persona di grande conoscenza come Malik Boulibaï e poi grandi sound system a diffondere il messaggio: Heartical Sound, Soul Stereo, Irie Ites, Guiding Star a rappresentare il reggae francese a livello mondiale. La musica Reggae in Francia vive, fidati.
E cosa ci dite riguardo la scena sound system?
Durante gli ultimi dieci anni, il numero dei sound system è veramente conosciuto, ogni regione ha il suo sound, più consolidato e più grande. Il dub ha anche contribuito nel vedere tutto ciò moltiplicarsi. Un esempio: Legal Shot Sound System, e il nostro rappresentante per i Paesi Baschi Equal Brother. Vedo più e più giovani vicini alla scena sound system, portano nuove canzoni, nuovi colori, credo che la novità sia qui.
Avete qualche progetto per il futuro?
Si l’etichetta ha nuovi progetti in fase di finalizzazione. Diversi nomi come King Lorenzo, Lion D, Brahim e Spectacular. Stiamo anche lavorando per il nuovo album di Ras Daniel Ray e il nostro dj LMc per un nuovo Mixtape.

When the label was born?
Poorman Records: Our association label poorman records, was born in 2003, in the Basque country, with the desire to communicate our passion for Jamaican music. Since the beginning, we are three to represent Poorman records, Sista Sÿ, LMc, and myself Selekta Komagain
Which was your purpose?
The goal of our associative label, is to promote reggae artists through concerts and cd’s productions and support the young artist scene, too often put aside.
What’s was your first production?
The first project of the label, was released in 2006 in the form of a One Riddim, with 16 artists from the international reggae scene, Rod Taylor, Tetrack, King Lorenzo, Ras Daniel Ray: this project was named Not A Joke Riddim , Music directed by Artikal Band de Montpellier.. Output in Cd, this project was also presided in vinyls, with Rod Taylor & Brahim in 45 ..
And which is your last?

How did you’ve entered in contact with Trinity?
I had the pleasure to represent for 2 years, Label Irie Ites Intl (Le Mans), through France, accompanying as many international artists. Trinity is part of my favorite dj’s, so being able to meet him, the selecta in sound allowed to create this real contact.
How does the project of the album came out?
We organized a concert in Basque country for him, but the administration did not facilitate this event .. But we had already paid Trinity for this show, so Trinity we recorded dubplates in exchange, so we were not losing and the Ruff It top project was born.
Reggae scene in France is one of the most developed in the whole continent. What is the ingredient of this success to you?
Many small labels do little things in France, the alternative radios allow a diffusion more present on the waves. And the reggae shows are always there. From radio broadcasts (france Inter) have also programmed reggae music for years, presented by heavy weight of knowledge such as Malik Boulibaï and a lot of sound system spreanding the message: Heartical Sound, Soul Stereo, Irie Ites, Guiding Star, representing the France Reggae worldwide. Reggae Music live in France, trust me.
What about the sound system scene?
Over the last ten years, the number of sound system has really grown, each region has its own sound, more and more solid, and more and more Faat .. The dub also contributed to see these craft are multiplied : a good example: Legal Shot Sound System .. and our Basque representative Equal Brothers. I see more and more young people, this closer to this scene sound system, they bring a new songs, new colors, I think the new is here.
Have you any projects for the future?
Yes the label to new project in finalization: we have various names like King Lorenzo, Lion D, Brahim, Spectacular. We are also working on an album project with Ras Daniel Ray and our DJ’s LMc for a new Mixtape.
